Spinlock lend support to Cowes based UKSA sailing charity

8 Aug 2017

Spinlock are proud to have joined other Solent-based businesses in offering their support to UKSA’s charitable youth development programmes with the sponsorship of five new RS Quba dinghies.

Spinlock’s CEO, Chris Hill, and Operations Director, Caroline Senior, attended a reception at UKSA and were joined by representatives from Wightfibre, Red Funnel and Barton Estate to witness the five dinghies being named by UKSA Ambassador and Paralympic Gold and Bronze medallist Helena Lucas MBE and blessed by the Reverend Andrew Poppe.

Spinlock support helps provide two dinghies that have been named Headspin and Tailspin - the names having been chosen by Spinlock staff. The dinghies will be used by children and young people getting out on the water at UKSA. Many of them will be taking part in UKSA's Test the Water programme or the National Citizen Service (NCS) programme, delivered at UKSA, and for some it will be their first time out on the water.

Spinlock's Operations Director Caroline Senior said: "We are proud to have worked closely with UKSA for the last 15 years and it's great to see the children come away from their time there filled with water confidence. It is amazing to think that thousands of local children will sail on boats we have provided and we look forward to seeing the distinctive blue hulls and sails coming up the river past our head office."

On naming the five dinghies, Helena Lucas MBE said: "It's fantastic seeing UKSA getting so many kids out on the water, not just from the Isle of Wight, but from all over the country. It's quite remarkable what they have managed to achieve."

Chris Hill added: "UKSA do a fantastic job of giving access and introducing new people to all that the sea can offer, both for leisure pursuits and for long-term career paths. At Spinlock, we are passionate about sailing, so it has been our pleasure to continue our ongoing support to UKSA.”
