An opportunity has arisen for a wide ranging role as a lead product designer focusing on the progression of the Spinlock ‘Active Safety’ range. With a focus on innovation and technical soft goods design. We need a hands on designer, experienced in complex constructions and materials with a strong eye for product aesthetics. Practical skills to develop early prototype samples, and experience of working directly with external suppliers are also key.

You will be working as part of a small team under the direction of the Design Manager and Product Manager. The Design Team is based at our unique head office in Cowes, in an enviable position overlooking the Solent and will require regular overseas travel. The Island is renowned for its watersports, beaches, countryside and good transport links make easy access to the south coast.

Experience and Skills

  • Experience of technical soft goods development with a good knowledge of construction, materials, processes and new technologies, supported with a strong eye for product aesthetics.
  • Strong organizational skills and proven ability to communicate effectively both internally and with external suppliers.
  • Competency in sketching, and skilled in key design software including some 3D  experience
  • Practical sewing and pattern making skills to create early simple prototypes
  • Structured “concept validation” and comprehensive product testing experience 
  • A focused “can do” attitude is important to achieve our goals and targets on time within our creative team
  • Ability to create clear and detailed garment tech packs and work closely with our overseas suppliers.
  • You will be required to visit factories and international trade shows to help source new fabrics, trims and suppliers and ensure smooth production process.

Manufacturing Business Systems Lead | Cowes Isle of Wight

Compliance and Quality Coordinator | Cowes Isle of Wight

An opportunity has arisen for a Compliance and Quality Coordinator to join our team in Cowes. This new position is responsible for reviewing, updating, and approving technical product specifications and assisting in the testing, quality and compliance processes.

You will need experience in a technical manufacturing environment and have an understanding of the product commercialisation process. Able to demonstrate analytical and problem-solving skills, project management and working with cross-functional teams.

You will need to be self-directed, motivated with good time management and a knowledge of quality systems. An understanding of the role documentation plays in such systems is key, along with the ability to communicate with team leaders about any risks or impediments that may hinder success.

Good computer skills are essential, including Excel and Word and basic knowledge of design programs - Illustrator or InDesign for creating Specifications.

You will be based in Cowes across our two sites with travel in UK and potential for International. Valid passport and full driving licence required.

Pay - We regularly check our salaries against other companies to make sure we’re competitive and keeping up with changes in the market. We also have a pay structure within Spinlock and ensure that each role is in line with similar roles within the Company. We’ll also review your basic pay every year, plus we offer extra performance rewards to recognise individual achievements. Spinlock is proud that by October 2016 all employees will receive the Living Wage as a minimum.

When we do well financially, we want our people to feel the benefit too. So we have a discretionary bonus scheme on offer that rewards our employees for helping us to reach our goals.  Spinlock also has in place a Quality Reward Scheme.

Leave - We offer you 22 days paid holiday, plus bank holidays (8 days) and a minimum of 2 extra days to cover our Christmas shutdown, usually from 24 December to 2 January but dependent on sales commitments. So that’s a minimum of 32 days per year! Obviously, if you work part-time this will be pro-rated.

After two years of continuous service for Spinlock, you will be able to apply for unpaid Extended or Special Leave. If you are a keen sailor then you can also apply for up to 5 days extra leave per 12 month period to compete in approved sailing races.

In addition to statutory sick pay, Spinlock have occupational sick pay which employees are eligible after probationary period and subject to terms as set out in the Employee Handbook.
