Lifejackets & Flotation
A lifejacket you forget you're wearing — until the moment you don't.

How a lifejacket inflates
- Automatic — inflates the moment it touches water; the right choice if you might be unconscious or unable to react.
- Manual — you pull a toggle to inflate. Simpler and cheaper, but only works if you're conscious.
- Foam — always buoyant, no mechanism. Ideal for children, watersports and casual use.

Why a harness matters
- With harness — built-in attachment points let you clip a safety tether to the boat, so a fall overboard doesn't separate you from the vessel. Essential for offshore, single-handed or night sailing.
- Without harness — lower profile and more comfortable, with no clip-on points. Better for inshore, recreational and warm-water activities.

Which buoyancy do I need?
Buoyancy is measured in newtons — higher numbers mean more lift.
- 50N — buoyancy aid for calm, sheltered water with help close at hand.
- 100N — general lifejacket for sheltered conditions and inland use.
- 150N — the recreational coastal and offshore standard.
- 170N — performance offshore, for heavier crews and rough seas.
- 275N — heavy-duty commercial and extreme-condition use.
